POSITION TITLE: Editorial Multimedia artist/designer

REPORTS TO: Supervisor for graphics (associate graphics editor)
ROLE/PURPOSE: The multimedia artist is responsible for developing visual storytelling for Tribune Web sites and multimedia projects by translating print content into interactive versions and by developing special interactive projects for editorial. This includes interactivity, animation, audio, video, photo galleries.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Apply sophisticated graphic solutions that are based on the principles of visual journalism to interactive graphics and projects. Work closely with the Chicago Tribune editorial staff to develop daily news graphics—using common Web and print presentation software—that meet the quality standards of the Chicago Tribune and that are delivered within production deadlines.
Design special interactive storytelling for on-line and other media, including CD-ROMs and DVDs. Exercise strong editorial judgment to gather and package information, photos and graphics for such projects. Help expand interactive capabilities of the newspaper design and graphics staff through the development of templates and style sheets, and training for interactive storytelling.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced understanding of interactive programs such as Flash (with ActionScripting) and Director as well as sound- and video-editing software. Strong ability in print presentation programs such as Illustrator and PhotoShop. At least two years of experience creating and the producing Web content.
