Helena Bertho

Helena is a Brazilian journalist with over 15 years of experience at the intersection of journalism, gender and technology. They are co-founder and Director of AzMina, a feminist nonprofit media organization founded in 2015 to challenge gender bias in journalism. Over the past decade, Helena has led AzMina's growth from a crowdfunded digital magazine into a multi-product organization that has reached 3.8 million people, built 6 active initiatives and earned 18 awards.
Under their leadership, AzMina developed technological informational solutions addressing real-world problems: from a domestic violence information app with 17,000 users, to AI-powered tools that make legislative monitoring more accessible and transparent for journalists and citizens.
Helena holds a postgraduate degree in Anthropology and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Gender Studies at UFBA. They are a fellow of the JournalismAI Collab Challenge (LSE) and Reporters Without Borders' Strengthening Journalists in the Digital Field program.
