These timely case studies will address news avoidance in an era of unending content, offering attendees tactics and strategies to make their offerings more friendly and relatable, including creating entire new beats, broadening the scope of alerts, and re-thinking what makes an audience-first story mix.
Speakers
Angela Pacienza is the Executive Editor at The Globe and Mail, where she helps lead the newsroom’s strategic direction and champions innovative storytelling across platforms. Known for her commitment to journalistic excellence and audience-focused journalism, Angela sits on the boards of the Canadian Journalism Foundation and the Online News Association. Angela is a graduate of the Online News Association’s Women’s Leadership Accelerator program (2018). She first got involved with ONA as a volunteer stuffing delegate bags at ONA07 in Toronto.
Jennifer Kho is a journalism consultant specializing in newsroom innovation and transformation. She was most recently the executive editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, where she was the first woman and first person of color to hold the top newsroom spot. She previously served as the vice president of journalism and information equity for sustainability consultancy DoGoodery, the managing editor and senior director of strategic innovation for HuffPost, and the managing editor of the Guardian US. She's an adviser for Bay City News Foundation, The Diversity Pledge Institute and The Pivot Fund, and a subject matter expert for A Picture’s Worth.
