Collaboration That Actually Holds Together

Everyone wants more collaboration, but it gets harder when teams are stretched, partners are spread out and no one has extra capacity. Drawing from a statewide Florida collaborative in the state with the fewest media outlets per capita, Marian Chia-Ming Liu will lead this workshop will offer practical ways to build collaboration inside the newsroom and across media organizations, universities and community partners, with tools for setting expectations, sharing workflows and keeping momentum after launch.

Marian Chia-Ming Liu is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose work spans local, national, and international newsrooms, including The Washington Post, CNN in Hong Kong, The Seattle Times, the San Jose Mercury News, the Sun Sentinel, and Source Magazine. As Florida Trib's audience and product lead, she is currently building and leading a statewide collaborative of legacy media, nonprofits and universities to expand coverage of Florida’s upcoming school board elections and strengthen the country’s most underserved local news infrastructure. Now in her third term as National Vice President of Civic Engagement for the Asian American Journalists Association, she spearheaded the creation and rollout of a language guide for AAPI communities and trained newsrooms on its use.
