ONA condemns White House press ban and stands with journalists

The Online News Association condemns President Donald Trump’s decision to deny journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico access to the White House and urges the administration to reverse course.

Journalists must be able to question government officials without fear of retaliation or having their access revoked because of their reporting. ONA stands with our colleagues in the Washington press corps who are being excluded or targeted simply for doing their jobs.

This decision follows other deeply concerning actions by the administration that threaten press freedom, including the arrests of journalists, searches of their homes and the issuance of subpoenas.

A free and independent press is a cornerstone of a democratic society. The public relies on journalists to provide independent reporting and hold those in power accountable. ONA urges the administration to respect the First Amendment and restore full and equal access for journalists covering the White House.
